Robert Zapfel is an innovator and pioneer with over 30+ years of experience as a serial entrepreneur. He is a charismatic leader, strategist and implementer with an instinct for setting trends and a strong background in technology.
In 1989, Robert founded his first company, specialised in ultra-large scale database systems, while pursuing his degree in computer science. Clients included Bull (today Atos), IBM, and the Austrian Ministry of Defense. Starting in 2000, Robert saw an emerging market for telecommunications technology and became one of the first to create a phone-based payment system across 88 countries.
Further startups include telecom carriers in the UK and Austria, alternative energy systems for India and African countries, telemedicine appliances and mobile payment systems for emerging markets, and a tech-focused venture capital firm. Clients included GM, WizzAir, EDS (today HP), Coca-Cola, Erste Bank, UNDP, Joule Africa, and PwC UK. Robert is an accredited expert member of the European Blockpool initiative and Blockchain Observatory.
